Governors

Lakenham-Primary-School-Prospectus-2013-14-102

Lakenham Primary School has an experienced and committed Governing Body. They monitor the performance of the school, providing support to ensure that every child receives a quality education. They work in partnership with the Headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.

All Lakenham Primary School Governors are volunteers and include:

  • Parents elected by other parents at the school
  • A teacher elected by their colleagues
  • A staff member elected by their colleagues
  • Members of the local community (co-op governors)
  • Representatives appointed by the co-operative trust.

The full Governing Body meets at least once every half term. Every Governor is also a member of one of our committees; Curriculum, Resources and Environment. These committees meet regularly to develop school policies, oversee budgets, evaluate progress and agree targets. Governors visit the school regularly and also attend training and school events.

Glen Scott

Chair of Governors

My son recently started in Reception, and I want to offer my skills to help the school as a parent governor.

I have worked within the internet industry for sixteen years and run my own business.  My experiences will help me hold others to account and ensure resources are used well to give every child the best possible education.

I can advise where technology can be most effectively used at school, for both teaching and administrative purposes.

As a parent governor I will bring the commitment and enthusiasm to support Lakenham Primary to be the best it can be.

Chris Hemmings

Vice Chair of Governors

I taught for many years in Norfolk secondary and primary schools and at the UEA before becoming a Local Authority educational adviser. This involved  providing training for teachers and leaders, working closely with schools to help them to improve and  leading Ofsted inspections. Previously, I have been a governor in two schools.  Now  I am  retired and thoroughly enjoying  being able to use this experience as a member of the governing body at Lakenham Primary School.

Michael Bateman

Co-Opted Governor

I was asked to become a governor at Lakenham two years ago following on from securing my current ‘day job’ as the Head of Education Inclusion at Norfolk County Council.  The headteacher, Mrs Dalton, had been involved in my interview for my role and wanted to make sure that I had the chance to see ‘the real world’ in operation; offering me some time at Lakenham to see inclusion in action.  Following on from this she asked me to join the governing body to make sure that I could see how an inclusive school operates day to day.

I am now supporting the school in my role as Chair of the Resources Committee, helping the school and other governors to make sure that the money the school receives is used to best effect to help all the children with their learning and the whole range of experiences on offer here.  I know that my experiences in Lakenham as a governor are helping me in my role across the whole of Norfolk…I hope that I am also able to bring my experiences to Lakenham to support the outstanding work that happens here everyday.

Paul Smith

Co-Opted Governor

Born and brought up in Norwich, I have lived in Lakenham for twenty years and I first became involved in Lakenham school life in 2001 as a volunteer at the former Lakenham First School, principally as a reading helper. A few years later I was invited to be a governor there and subsequently became a member of the governing body of the new Lakenham Primary School in 2007.

In addition to general governor duties, I currently have the role of monitoring extra-curricular activities.   I am also involved in the local community with the nearby Jubilee Community Centre, where I have been on the management committee as treasurer for the last sixteen years.________________________________________________________________

Lisa Ballett

Staff Governor

I have various roles linked to Lakenham Primary School.
I have three children, all of whom attend Lakenham Primary School. They all started in the Nursery and are working well through the school and enjoying it too.
I am Chair of ‘The Friends of Lakenham Primary School’. Along with other members of the committee we work hard to bring the school community together by running various events throughout the school year. The events raise much needed funds to be used to provide equipment and experiences for all pupils at Lakenham.
I also work in the Early Years Foundation Stage as a Teaching Assistant. I have been a part of the Early Years team for three years.
With my varied roles within the school, I feel I am able to demonstrate that I am committed and enthusiastic about Lakenham Primary School.___________________________________________________________________

One of my other passions is cooking and I am very proud to be associated with the Lakenham Junior Bakers!

I have been a Co-opted Governor since Lakenham Primary School opened.  I practised as a solicitor for over twenty five years and I bring to the School the skills I learnt whilst advising clients, both in private practice and local government.

I can give guidance to the Governing Body when taking decisions, in the best interest of the children at Lakenham Primary.  I am a member of the School’s Resources Committee where together with other governors I seek to ensure that the School’s resources are used to provide an outstanding level of education and experience to the children.
