Governors

Lakenham-Primary-School-Prospectus-2013-14-102

Lakenham Primary School has an experienced and committed Governing Body. They monitor the performance of the school, providing support to ensure that every child receives a quality education. They work in partnership with the Headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.

All Lakenham Primary School Governors are volunteers and include:

  • Parents elected by other parents at the school
  • A teacher elected by their colleagues
  • A staff member elected by their colleagues
  • Members of the local community (co-op governors)
  • Representatives appointed by the co-operative trust.

The full Governing Body meets at least once every half term. Every Governor is also a member of one of our committees; Curriculum, Resources and Environment. These committees meet regularly to develop school policies, oversee budgets, evaluate progress and agree targets. Governors visit the school regularly and also attend training and school events.

John Chilvers

Chair of Governors

I am delighted to have been elected as the school’s Chair of Governors in October 2016. Having spent over 30 years in the teaching profession, the majority of these in senior roles, I am keen to both support and challenge the school to continue to provide a rounded and stimulating education for all pupils.

In addition, as the grandfather of a current pupil and a local resident, I have a strong commitment to make full use of my skills and experience in the interests of the local community.

Chris Hemmings

Vice Chair of Governors

I taught for many years in Norfolk secondary and primary schools and at the UEA before becoming a Local Authority educational adviser. This involved  providing training for teachers and leaders, working closely with schools to help them to improve and  leading Ofsted inspections. Previously, I have been a governor in two schools.  Now  I am  retired and thoroughly enjoying  being able to use this experience as a member of the governing body at Lakenham Primary School.

Glen Scott

Parent Governor

My son recently started in Reception, and I want to offer my skills to help the school as a parent governor.

I have worked within the internet industry for sixteen years and run my own business.  My experiences will help me hold others to account and ensure resources are used well to give every child the best possible education.

I can advise where technology can be most effectively used at school, for both teaching and administrative purposes.

As a parent governor I will bring the commitment and enthusiasm to support Lakenham Primary to be the best it can be.

Sara Thrussell

Parent Governor

I grew up in the area and have lived in Lakenham with my husband and 3 sons for the last 20 years. I have experience of having children attend both the old and current Lakenham schools and 2 of the local High Schools

I am passionate about investing in my community and proud of the diversity in the area. I am privileged to have been part of the LPS Friends for 8 years and a governor for the last 6 years.

I have worked in Social Care for 20 years, currently in Children’s Safeguarding, and I am the governor with special responsibility for Safeguarding and Looked After Children in school.

Paul Smith

Co-Opted Governor

Born and brought up in Norwich, I have lived in Lakenham for twenty years and I first became involved in Lakenham school life in 2001 as a volunteer at the former Lakenham First School, principally as a reading helper. A few years later I was invited to be a governor there and subsequently became a member of the governing body of the new Lakenham Primary School in 2007.

In addition to general governor duties, I currently have the role of monitoring extra-curricular activities.   I am also involved in the local community with the nearby Jubilee Community Centre, where I have been on the management committee as treasurer for the last sixteen years.

Dawn Fisk

Parent Governor

Charlotte Medjahed

Parent Governor

I am Charlotte and I have three sons, two currently at Lakenham in reception and year 2. I worked as a maths teacher in London before moving to Norwich in July 2016. I hope to use my experience as a teacher and a parent to support and help develop the school to make sure that the children find learning enjoyable and enriching. I will do my best to make sure your children get the best.

Lisa Ballett

Parent Governor

I have various roles linked to Lakenham Primary School.
I have three children, all of whom attend Lakenham Primary School. They all started in the Nursery and are working well through the school and enjoying it too.
I am Chair of ‘The Friends of Lakenham Primary School’. Along with other members of the committee we work hard to bring the school community together by running various events throughout the school year. The events raise much needed funds to be used to provide equipment and experiences for all pupils at Lakenham.
I also work in the Early Years Foundation Stage as a Teaching Assistant. I have been a part of the Early Years team for three years.
With my varied roles within the school, I feel I am able to demonstrate that I am committed and enthusiastic about Lakenham Primary School.
