Lakenham Primary School were visited yesterday by 34 Chinese children from Yucai 2 Primary School in Shenyang, North East China.

All the children had great fun learning about each other’s cultures and school life, particulary their experience of the Oympics in 2008. . It was really interesting trying to communicate as their English (and our Chinese!) was not very good. However we found we could get by using Google translate on our minilaptops!

2H Volcanoes!!

We have done lots of work on volcanoes during this term. This short video shows some of our experiences simulating the movement caused by earthquakes with tables and blocks. Then we went on to make volcanoes and simulate the eruptions using bicarbonate of soda vinegar and food colouring.

This term, Phase 2 have been learning about Volcanoes. We have made our own volcanoes and became scientists and erupted them with a controlled explosion. We mixed together bicarbonate of soda, red food colouring and vinegar. BOOM!!! Check out our videos to see what happened.

Olympic team GB visits our school!

Track sprinter Victoria Williamson swapped the boards for the classroom when she went to meet pupils at Lakenham Primary School.

As part of the visit, the 18-year-old, who is ranked number two junior in the world, told the children about how she used to do athletics before she was talent spotted by British Cycling to become a track sprinter.

Victoria, from Hevingham, also showed the youngsters her bike, helmets and shoes.

The visit was arranged through Velo Club Norwich, the city’s largest cycling club, which Victoria joins when she can on a Sunday morning.

Nikki Wilson, assistant head, said: “It was a unique opportunity to invite a future GB Olympic champion to our school and to inspire the youngsters to cycle themselves.

“It was great and the kids really loved meeting her. They asked her a lot of questions such as how fast she can go and questions about her bike.
