Computing Year 1

Spring Term
Co2/1.6    use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about material on the internet or other online technologies.

During our Spring Lockdown, the children were given computing unplugged activities to try at home! This including organising our toys based on certain characteristics, creating new games or dances and teaching them to our families and cooking!

We also enjoyed Safer Internet Day in February. This year's theme was reliability. We talked about what this means and created vocabulary banks of words that mean true and words that mean false to help us talk about things we might see or hear in the media.

Autumn Term
Co2/1.5    recognise common uses of information technology beyond school

We discussed how our bodies are just like computers! Our brain is the CPU that tells us what to do and the hard drive which stores all of our memories (history) and knowledge (data). Our face is the display which tells other people information such as how we are feeling. Our skin is like the keyboard and mouse - we use it to input information such as how things taste, smell, sound, look and feel. Our ears and mouths are the microphones and speakers and our stomach are the battery and power source that keep us going!

We live in a world that is full of computing and information technology. Sometimes we don't even realise we are using computers! We worked with our families to find all of the computers we use at home and think about why we use them.
