Sports Premium
The purpose of the premium is for schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all primary-aged pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
This means schools must use the premium to:
- build capacity and capability within the school and ensure that improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity provision made now are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining the school in future years; and
- develop or add to the PE, sport and physical activity that the school provides
Any use of the premium must be in accordance with the terms outlined in this document.
The Department for Education (DfE) has published information on how much premium funding primary schools receive, and advice on how to spend it.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. We will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils progress and participation in PE and school sport. We are required to publish on-line information about how we have used the additional funding, including details about our sporting provision alongside curriculum details. This will ensure that parents/carers and others are made fully aware of the PE and sporting provision at Lakenham Primary School.
Allocation:
Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils they have in years 1 to 6. Funding is determined by using data from the January school census. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils will receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil. This means that Lakenham Primary receives approximately £19,500 per year.
Spending the Sports Premium funding:
We believe in a holistic approach to the development of sport and physical activity for all and encourage collaboration and partnership working to make the best use of resources and enhance PE and sport provision in order to raise participation and achievement for all pupils.
The school is a member of the Norwich Schools Sports Partnership, which the school has received a Gold School Games Mark for the success and engagement in a high level of events.
As a school, we hire a national level Gymnastics coach to ensure that the level of provision is as high as possible.
PE Passport is used to ensure that the impact of the teaching of PE is high and learning sequences are logged to ensure that any gaps can be ascertained.
