School Food

In 2021, our school kitchen became our own. We started a mission to improve child health and tackle inequality. There are incredible school meals and food education at Lakenham Primary. We know that children in our care are our future, we feed them like it! Working with Chefs in Schools is further enhancing the exceptional offer for school food throughout our school, be that in Nursery, before & after school care, lunches or at events. Chef Nell and her team are the backbone of our food offer and we couldn't be more proud.

Chefs in Schools

Chef Nell works closely with Chefs in School (London based charity with Patron Dame Prue Leith) and is the person in charge of all food through our school. From Nursery snack, school lunches, before & after school care and big events. She is our fantastic Chef and we couldn't be more proud of her team!

Where our food comes from?

As much food as possible is sourced from producers from within 30 miles from our school using local butchers and fish mongers.

Children can choose to have a cooked meal or bring in a packed lunch. However, it is preferred that the children eat school dinners. They are prepared on site by our school chef and her team . They offer good value for money and provide a very healthy, balanced diet.

Events

Chef Nell and her team, made sure our Sports day BBQ was a huge success.

Home Packed Lunches

Home packed lunches should be nutritionally well balanced. If your child is having home packed lunch, please ensure that lunch boxes and all drinking containers (no glass or cans) are secure. As a healthy school, we ask that a balanced meal is sent, with no fizzy drinks and not too many sweet items during each week. Naming the sandwich boxes, particularly for the Reception and Key Stage 1 children is useful. Our school hall provides a lovely place for children to eat their lunch.

School meals for children in Reception, Year 1 and year 2 are free of charge as they are part of the Universal Free School Meals (UFSM) offered by the government. Meals provided from children in years 3 to 6 must be paid for in advance. If you think your family is entitled to Free School Meals through the disadvantage fund, please talk to our office staff and they will help be able to support you with your application.
