Therapy Dog - Matilda
Matilda
We are very excited to introduce you to Matilda, our school dog. Matilda lives with Mrs Williams our Headteacher and comes into school every day. She has been trained to be used as a therapy dog. There is lots of research on the benefits of pets in educational settings and we have already seen the impact that Matilda has on so many children.
Matilda Fact File
Matilda was born in Norfolk, on the 20th of October 2022.
Matilda is a black labrador
Matilda has a dog brother called Bruce. He was the school dog at CNS, but he has hurt his leg and now stays at home instead of going into school.
How did Matilda join the school?
Earlier in 2020, the children asked if we could get a school wellbeing therapy dog.
A member of the CALM therapy room took this on as a project. He asked each class to vote for this. Excel was learnt and used effectively to produce graphs to show results. The vote was an overwhelming yes. A presentation for the governors and Mrs Williams was completed and they all were overwhelmed by the passion the children had for the project, it was of course as big YES!
We had the joy of watching Jorgie grow up at school and then have a litter of puppies. One of the puppies Matilda has joined us as our therapy dog.
The dogs are in each day to help any of our children who are a little unsettled (that was especially helpful in September),
Keep an eye on the newsletter as Matilda shares what they have been doing, learning about and generally what they are up to. Here is an idea of what they have been doing.
