MFL Year 3

All About Me

In the Autumn Term, Year 3 learnt ‘All about me’. Within this unit, they were introduced to the language of French, finding out which countries around the world speak French as well as the languages that we speak in our own class. They read the book 'Broum! Allons-y!' to find out the names of different family members in French. 

Over the weeks, they enjoyed learning some catchy songs and playing games and practising their reading and writing, progressing from singular words to simple phrases and sentences.

They impressed us with their ability to learn the following:

• how to greet others
• how to say their name and how they are feeling
• how to ask others their name and how they are feeling
• the names of relatives
• talking about themselves and their family

 At the end of the term, Year 3 also held a French Afternoon Tea for their home adults, where they were able to show off their excellent language skills!

Numbers, Days and Months of the Year

This term, Year 3 have been learning numbers up to 31 in French through lots of different games including Lotto, Show Me and Crack the Code We read the book 'Petit Lapin Compte' to introduce them to us.

We have also learned the days of the week and the months of the year. They made comparisons between French, English and other languages when looking at months of the year as well as finding out how the English names originated from the Roman calendar. They have also learned how to say their birthday in French.
