Schools of Sanctuary
At Lakenham, we create an environment which is a welcoming and inclusive space where everyone can feel safe. We have an ethos which sees everyone as an equal, valued member of our community and the wider community. We are proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all. We consider ourselves a School of Sanctuary and are working towards making this official.
Part of the City of Sanctuary movement, Schools of Sanctuary is a nationwide initiative to celebrate the good practice of schools who welcome asylum seeking and refugee families and foster a culture of welcome and inclusion for all.
Schools of Sanctuary help their pupils, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community.
What have we done?
This year we, once again, participated in 'A Day of Welcome' - part of the national annual celebration around Refugee Week. This year, due to Coronavirus, the activities took place online. The children created some fantastic artwork to welcome refugees to the community. One of the bubbles in school has even been creating Dolls' house, inspired by The Giant Dolls' House Project.
