Writing in Year 3
In Year 3, we recap and build on writing skills previously taught.
Children are taught writing skills taken from the National Curriculum and have opportunities to practice them with an adult, and then apply these skills in different ways through the learning environment.

Children have daily writing opportunities through the continuous provision learning environment such as:
* snack bar - recording items for snack, writing the total amount and recording how they made it.
* self registration - recording what they are having for lunch and analysing the class data.
* small world - writing labels, applying using new vocabulary and recording stories.
* construction - designing, writing labeling and evaluating.
Researching and recording information
Through our enquiries and challenges, children are expected to use technology, books and artefacts to research and record information.

Autumn - Ancient Egypt
Genre 1: balanced argument and oral debate
1. Hook:
Watching a debate & reading a balanced arguement, to begin developing success criteria
What makes a good debate?
-Structure
-Content
2. Teaching genre specific features of a balanced argument:
E.g. creating pros and cons list for living in 'Weslandia'.
3. Practice:
Using provision time to orally practice debating, using persuasive language, debate sentence starters and conjunctions to strengthen argument points.
The children worked in partners, to create pros and cons for their chosen debate topic and then used their pros and cons plans to practice oral debating.
4. Planning:
Breaking down each section of a balanced argument; using class developed success criteria and boxing up method to plan structure and content.
5. Independent writing:
Applying all of what we have learnt to write a balanced argument

Genre 2: persuasive holiday brochure to Egypt
1. Hook:
Visiting a travel agents to explore the purpose of a holiday brochure and experience looking at a range of different holiday brochures.
